Unemployment movement
French and German delegations
JOINT DECLARATION
Directly after the Paris demonstration of March 7, 1998, the French
and German delegations representing unemployment associations and
organisations, met and decided to undertake joint initiatives so as
to coordinate and intensify the unemployment movement in both
countries for the following objectives:
- an immediate improvement in the material living conditions of the unemployed and the right to a liveable income,
- the right to a stable and fixed employment and for a massive reduction in working hours.
May 8, 1998 EUROPEAN BRIDGE ACTION between KEHL and STRASBOURG
The delegations proposed that on May 8, 1998, should be a day of
joint action in both France and Germany. Demonstrations are planned
on bridges in frontier towns, starting with the European bridge
between Kehl and Strasbourg.
All interested associations and trade unions in France and Germany
are invited to participe, including ENU, ETUC, EAPN and especially
the European Marches against unemployment.
September 8, 1998, BERLIN
The French unemployment associations will be sending a large
delegation to join a major demonstration in Berlin on September 11,
1998, organised by the German unemployed.

Also present at the Paris demonstration of March 7, were delegations
from Luxembourg, Holland, Italy, and Belgium active in unemployment
initiatives in their respective countries. They expressed their
