The Center for Law and Social Policy has been of great assistance to all interested in the effects of welfare reform on hungry children and their families. Recently they announced an addition to their series of audio conferences.
Subject: New Audio Conference added to the "Welfare: 1998 Implementation" Audio Conferences hosted by CLASP
The President's budget has requested funding for an additional 50,000 housing vouchers targeted to families moving from welfare to work. All too often, the welfare system focuses on health care and child care and not the biggest expense of all - housing. How can housing assistance help in efforts to move families from welfare to work? How can housing assistance help families obtain and retain jobs? Can housing assistance help employers to find and retain new employees? How can housing vouchers be used to complement a local economic development strategy? Is new federal funding necessary to meet this need? Find out how the proposed program would work and what some states are already doing to provide housing assistance to families leaving welfare for work.
Join us on Friday, May 1st, 1998 12:30pm - 1:30pm EST to hear the discussion entitled "New Housing Vouchers Could Help Families Moving >From Welfare to Work".
